Although I lived and spent the majority of my time in Santiago de Chile, I did travel throughout the country, and one of my favorite trips was to Valparaíso, a port city about an hour west of the capital. The oldest European city in Chile, Valparaíso is now a World Heritage Site and still holds part of the national government. It is a small and dirty city built on a steep hill, filled with a colorful mosaic of houses all smashed together.

In small town Huntsville, Texas, Dan Phillips’s name is well known. Dan has built several homes using recycled materials, oftentimes what other home builders have considered to be garbage. Within these homes, Dan has managed to produce efficiency and beauty, all within the confines of strict safety codes.
If someone ever depicted Texas as big, loud and inactive in the current green movement, they could be wrong about two of those things. On June 30, 2011, Houston’s new park, a non-profit organization called Discovery Green (also known as Disco Green), hosted an art car parade and a free concert featuring Beans Barton and the Bi-Peds.
